Monday:
Good day to all. I hope you had a wonderful break. I would love to hear what you did over the past week. Let's get started by sharing some stories. We will move on to the next task at 10:40. Open Document for Monday, February 24th
Up next I would like everyone to download the following document. You will list off as much as you know, or think you know about agriculture, sustainable agriculture, and aquaculture. Do not use internet sources, only what your prior knowledge or experience has taught you. We will revisit this list at the end of the unit. Work on this until 10:55.
Movie Time. I want everyone to get into groups of three or four to watch the video. (Unless Nick can hook up someone's computer to the TV to play for the entire class, but I am guessing not). You will be taking notes during the video so please be prepared to do so. If you all hit play at the same time, you should not encounter sound issues. The video will last until 11:30. Habitable Planet Agriculture video
After the video you need to compose a short two-three paragraph summary of the main concepts you learned. You will write those summaries on the shared document for today. Then create one critical thinking question from the information you gathered. I do not want it to be a recall question but rather a more open ended question with multiple answers. The question may start with "What if" or "Suppose you". You will need to write and answer that question on todays shared document as well. Then you will need to pick one question written by your classmates and give an answer to that as well. Therefore, every question will have two answers.
For your homework.
This next unit is sort of a big one. We will be dealing with Land and Water Use. More specifically in that general topic we will be focusing on agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, and urban development. Therefore, we will break up the unit into smaller chunks to make it more manageable. We will start peer presentations on Wednesday and finish on Friday. Your chapter notes will not be due until Friday. I will be in class Friday as well.
We are going to start off by calling the first part Agriculture and Aquaculture. Please select one topic (slide) from the shared preso, research the material, summarize it, and put it into the preso. I am looking for a lot of great information to share with the group. Minimum of four slides, use photos as needed. Please also add two review questions for your subject area. I am looking for good, solid questions that hit on important topics from your given section. We will present these on Wednesday and Friday. You will be using information subtopics from The Habitable Planet, 5 Steps to a 5, and the Barron's Review. Those PDFs are below and the shared presentation is also posted for you to select a topic from.

Wednesday:
Good morning my good people. I hope the weather finds you well. Even if you hate it I don't care, we need the rain and snow in a bad bad way. So lets hope it keeps coming. Today will be similar to Monday. You will need to use the wiki for directions but also use our open document for work during class.
Just a few quick reminders. If you are missing any work, please get it in to me. I will be entering grades later today. I did not receive very many Unit 6 test corrections so get those in to me. And I will be in class on Friday and will be hosting a AP Study session from 4-6 Friday afternoon. If you plan on coming try to bring some snacks.
To get started today I have some opening questions to get you thinking. Please use the Google Doc as our live chat for the day. Open Document for February 26th
These are the two articles you will have to respond to for your opener. You will have until 11:00 to complete this task. Be sure to put all responses on the shared document. CA Drought Relief and Aid
For the rest of the period you will be conducting your peer presentations. After each person is done presenting, everyone will need to respond to the two review questions the presenter has created for you. You will again do this on the shared document.
For your homework you will need to finish up your slides on the presentation if you have not done so already.
Friday:
Hello all. Please do the following opener to get started. Agriculture Opener
Now we are going to take notes while others present their slides on Agriculture and Aquaculture. Hopefully we will finish up with the class notes today and be ready for a review on Tuesday. Therefore, be prepared for an exam on Unit 7 on Tuesday.
Up next is a FRQ for Unit 7. I will hand out your prompt. You will have twenty five minutes to complete this FRQ.
For the weekend, you will need to answer the one of the following prompts. You will do this with a creative and image rich presentation that you are persuading us, the class, on how to better the world as a whole with a few smarter practices. I am looking for key concepts we have gone over such as, GMO's, Integrated Pest Management, Organic Farming, biotechnology, Marine Protected Areas, fisheries etc. There is no one right answer or we would be doing it. I am just looking for you to review some of the more sustainable practices humans have put into place.
The presentation has no minimum or maximum number of slides. Only enough to get your point across. There can be no words on your slides. All information you share needs to be in a voice over. Select one of the two topics below and then focus on a subtopic with in it. Keep your presos under two minutes. Upload to Vimeo and share your link with us below. This will be due by the beginning of class Tuesday morning. Open Document for Tuesday March 4th
1. How can humans use land sustainably? (Agriculture focus)
2. How can humans manage ocean resources sustainably? (Aquaculture focus)
